Craigslisting: Spring Edition

With the onset of warmer weather, that mean's that tag sale season should be ramping up!!  Who's excited??  That's right, this girl!  There was only one last week that I stopped at, I'm hoping there will be more in the coming weeks. In order to get us all excited for some amazing tag sale treasures, I thought it was time for another Craigslist Treasure Hunt!

craiglist antique fridge

Let start with this working vintage GE fridge for $150.  Not an amazing steal, but it looks like it's in pretty nice condition and I just love those lines.  I wouldn't be so bold as to put it in a kitchen (although I've seen it done and it can be amazing), I'd actually put this in a game room or basement hang-out.  Refreshments for all!

craiglist cast iron sink

This cast iron sink is FREE if you take it with a pile of wood.  In fact, if you want the wood, you MUST take the sink.  What??  I know you're probably thinking that I'm crazy here, but I practically die over these sinks.

Do you think I'm crazy now?

Getting back to Craigslist... Let's go Mid Century Modern on your space:

craigslist MCM bar cabinet

$75 for this MCM liquor cabinet could go either way.  It's a neat piece, certainly, and would add some style to a space, but quality might be questionable.  Due to the poor photo quality on the listing, I'm not sure if this is actually wood or laminate... if it was wood, $75 is an awesome deal!  laminate? meh.  I'd hold off.

craigslist MCM bar stools

If you just want to add a small touch of MCM to your space, can I suggest these bar stools?  3 for $60.  The black is a little masculine for my taste, but with a new fabric, I'm sold!

Lastly:

Craigslist ethan allen blue sofa

$300 might be a bit steep for this Ethan Allen sofa in my opinion, but it has tons of potential.  I simply adore the line of the back and the tailored tufting.  If you can work the blue into your space, this could be an unbeatable deal.  I would definitely recommend, however, removing that skirt (like I did here).  With a little leg showing, she'd be a show-stopper.  Ideally, I'd love to reupholster this in a textural neutral, but at $300 it might be a bit pricy for that.

As always, I like to assure you that our local craigslist isn't all amazing deals, sunshine and butterflies... you can also get a gorilla costume HEAD, standard issue hand cuffs, or dentures....  I think I'll stick to the furniture and architectural salvage...

Have you gotten any amazing finds on craigslist lately?

Office Glitz

IKEA's pretty devious if you ask me.  Every time I end up there to buy a flip house kitchen or such, I end up spending money on my own house as well. After drooling over this lamp for 6 months,

ranarp

my resistance wore down.

IKEA-lamp-1

It fit's perfectly in my office.  Not too big, not too small, and just enough glitz.  Check out that cord and gold accents!  Well done, IKEA!  (it's also available in silver, but the white just called to me)

IKEA-lamp-2

I also purchased drawer inserts for my office's expedit cubbies.  I've tried to keep flip reciepts and paperwork organized with just open shelving, but it hasn't been pretty (read: looks like a bomb went off).  Once I got 4 sets of drawers home and assembled one set, I noticed an issue...

As you may know, IKEA's expedit line has now been replaced with Kallax.  Same product, but a little sleeker.  And, apparently, slightly whiter.

kallax-white

Not kosher.  It wasn't close enough to be the same and not different enough to be different, if you know what I mean.  The way I saw it, I had 2 options.  Go back to IKEA and pick up the drawers in the wood tone...

... and IKEA's 35 minutes away and at this point was a weekend.  I don't do IKEA on weekends...... I like myself too much to do that to me....  so where does that leave me?

Paint them, naturally.

critter-gray

I went with a light gray- just gray enough to add a bit of contrast to the white and get away from the clashing white tones.

IKEA-drawers-1

Some fancier brass pulls are in these drawers future, but until then, I also sprayed the knobs gold.  Can you tell how excited I am for the weather finally to be nice enough to start painting outside again?

IKEA-drawers-2

Once I get the office organized once again and tweak a few more small things, I'll give you a full office update.  Until then, I'm totally excited to have a little bit more style in this tiny room.

Well, I'm off to meet the contractor at Grover!  Happy Monday!!

Grover: Week 5

I hope you enjoy these weekly updates as I learn to navigate through the business of flipping houses.  Check out  more about this flip, Grover, or check out posts about our last flip HERE. I'm not quite sure how week 5 got here already.  This was one of those weeks where I was running around like a crazy person only to look back and wonder what actually was accomplished.  On top of it all, I almost forgot to take pics last night before leaving.  I was in the car with it running when I remembered and ran back in and snapped a few iphone pics (which means the photos in today's post are going to be very top-notch).

The big tedium of the week was started last week: sanding, scraping, and priming trim.  Thankfully all the trim in the 3 bedrooms is now ready for finish coats!

The other big thing this week was a dumpster.  Get it, big?

I've unloaded ALLLLL the demo from the house into it and thankfully have some room in the house to move around again.  There's also still room in the dumpster for when the wall starts coming down on Monday (got pushed back due to waiting for permit).

w5-kitchen-dining

I spent several hours at IKEA on Wednesday ordering the kitchen and purchasing the bathroom vanity.  I've already half assembled the vanity in order to nail down a location for the new medicine cabinet recess.  Although there is a recess there currently, it's about a foot off center and would look pretty ridiculous if I located the new vanity there.

Heading over to the kitchen, I'm minorly apprehensive about the door fronts that I picked for the kitchen.  I hope the graining doesn't look dated.  I went with the one on the left which is real wood.  The one on the right, although I like the graining, it's just a print of wood on plastic and would be too dark.

Handy Dad also helped me clean out a few things in the yard yesterday including this modular fence (my guess was a dog pen) from underneath inches of dirt.  It's like they tried to bury it in hopes it would go away.  Not so, previous homeowners, not so.

I did hit a few small hick-ups this week too.

As I was hoping to prep the hall ceiling for paint, I noticed that the top layer of plaster was lose in one corner.  On a flat ceiling this would be no biggie, but on a swirled ceiling like this is, I'm going to have to get creative.  Luckily it's in the corner of the hallway- probably the most inconspicuous place in the house.  Guess who'll be googling how to repair swirl textured ceilings??

I also decided that the light fixtures that I installed last week just weren't bright enough with only one bulb, so I set out to replace them..... but the replacement lights that I got won't sit flat with the hardware provided.  That's what I get for going with cheap lights.

w5-bedroom-light

Not a big issue, just an annoying one since I now have to return these and buy a third set of lights for the bedrooms.  Third time better be the charm!

I'm very eager for the contractor to get started... I know once he does, the progress will be in leaps and bounds!

Have a great weekend!
